Garden steps & walls · Northamptonshire

Create levels, structure and character within the garden.

Steps and walls are the structural bones of a landscaped garden. They turn awkward slopes into terraces, define areas, raise planting to where you can see it and make different levels easy to move between. We build them as individual jobs and as part of complete garden transformations.

Garden steps

Steps are designed around height, depth and the way they meet the paths, paving and walls around them, so they feel right underfoot and look like they were always meant to be there.

  • Porcelain and natural stone steps
  • Brick, block and paved steps
  • Sleeper steps for informal gardens
  • Wide landscape steps
  • Steps connecting raised patios to lawns

Garden walls

Walls retain raised ground, create planting beds, separate areas, form seating and support raised patios. Ours sit on concrete footings sized for the load behind them, with drainage stone, membrane and weep holes so they do not bulge after the first wet winter.

  • Retaining walls with proper drainage
  • Raised beds and planters
  • Dry-stone style walling in local ironstone
  • Reclaimed brick for cottages, crisp block for new builds
  • Coping, capping and recessed wall lighting

Wall cladding

Existing or new block walls can be transformed with stone or porcelain cladding. It works especially well alongside porcelain paving, giving a coordinated, premium finish without the cost of solid stone.

  • Natural stone cladding
  • Porcelain wall tiles to match the patio
  • Rendered and painted finishes

Why preparation matters

The bit you never see is the bit you’re paying for.

Built on footings

Retaining walls fail from the bottom. Ours sit on concrete footings sized for the load.

Drained, not damp

Weep holes, drainage stone and membrane behind every retaining wall.

Matched to the house

Reclaimed brick for the village cottage, crisp porcelain cladding for the new build.

Garden steps & walls: your questions.

Still got a question?Call Gaz · 07961 737684
Do I need planning permission for a garden wall?

Usually not under 2 metres, or 1 metre next to a highway. We flag it in the quote if your wall is near the limit.

Can you work on a steep garden?

Yes, that is most of what we do. Terracing a steep garden usually means two or three retaining walls and a run of steps.

Can lighting be built into the walls?

Yes, and it is far better done as the wall goes up than afterwards. We run the cable and set the fittings in the courses, as in the dry-stone beds in our projects.
