A quality finished surface depends entirely on what sits underneath it. We do driveway preparation and groundworks as part of landscaping, garden renovation and external improvement projects, with our own plant and our own operators. The surface is the cheap bit; the 150 to 250mm of compacted sub-base beneath it is what you are paying for.

Driveways
Replacing an existing drive or creating new parking, correct excavation and sub-base are everything. Poor preparation means sinking, movement, standing water and early failure. We build for vehicle loading, ground conditions, drainage, finished levels and the junction with existing surfaces.

Landscaping groundworks
Before the attractive parts of a garden go in, the site often has to be reshaped. We strip, reduce levels, install sub-bases, prepare retaining structures and create the foundations for patios, walls, steps and buildings. Doing the groundwork and the landscaping as one project means the finished garden is planned as a whole.

Our own 360 excavators from 0.8 to 28 tonnes, a JCB 3CX, telehandler, dumpers, rollers and a spider crane for tight access. No waiting on hire and no operator we have never met. Developers, builders and garden designers can see the full trade offer on our trade page.

We photograph the base before the surface goes down and send it to you.

Permeable paving or a soakaway so surface water stays on your land and you avoid the planning rule.

Do I need planning permission for a driveway?
Not if it drains to a permeable surface or soakaway on your land, or is under 5 m². We design every drive to meet that.
Block paving, tarmac or gravel?
Block paving is tidiest, costs most and lasts longest. Tarmac is quick, clean and good value on bigger areas. Gravel is cheapest but needs topping up. We will price whichever you want, or two for comparison.
Can you do a dropped kerb?
Yes. We submit the application to the council and do the kerb work as an approved contractor or alongside one.
